WHAT: 5-Hour Energy Lined To 13 Deaths?

Okay soooo, I’ve never been a fan of any type of energy drinks, for real. I take my vitamins and my Le’Vive and keep it movin’.

According to a story on The Detroit Free Press website, the popular brand of 5-Hour Energy drinks have been cited in the deaths of 13 people! What in the world? I mean, I guess a person could die from anything…but…

Anywho, according to FDA spokeswoman Shelly Burgess, the energy company, Living Essentials, has been linked with 92 adverse-event reports including 32 hospitalizations. What is my point? Can we leave the energy drinks alone and opt for something natural?

Earlier this year, the New York Soda Ban was approved. The soda ban prevents all restaurants, sports arenas, fast-food places, and movie theaters from selling sugar-sweetened drinks in cups larger than 16 ounces.

FROM THE DETROIT FREE PRESS

It was revealed last month that Corona, Calif.-based Monster’s drinks have been cited in the deaths of five people in the past year, according to incident reports that doctors and companies voluntarily file with the FDA.

5-Hour Energy said on its website that its energy shot contains the same amount of caffeine as 12 ounces of the leading cup of premium coffee. 5-Hour Energy is a dietary supplement that boosts energy and isn’t marketed as a beverage, Living Essentials said in a statement.

The company “is unaware of any deaths proven to have been caused by the consumption of 5-Hour Energy,” Living Essentials said in the statement.
