National recording artist Melinda Watts takes her girl-centered non-profit, Dream Girlz Gathering, to the East Coast to host the G.L.A.M. (Girls Leadership & Mentoring) Camp. The mother-daughter focused weekend November 30-December 2, will take place in the cabins of Blackstone, VA, just an hour outside of Richmond. The weekend will include pampering sessions, leadership training, a powerful live concert, and empowering workshops.
“We are committed to creating programs for the remainder of the year and into 2013 that will lay a foundation of leadership and training for our young girls,” shares visionary Melinda Watts. She goes on to share, “We are excited that we will be able to add more girls to the Dream Girlz network so they can continue the conversation far beyond the camp.”
The traveling event offers a “safe space” for underserved girls, ages 8-18, and provides a platform for leadership training and mentoring. This camp positions young women for the future by providing age-appropriate and relevant sessions focused around goal-setting, leadership development, and peer mentorship for girls and their mothers. G.L.A.M. Camp has become one of the most exclusive and sought after camp destinations for teen and tween girls who strive to become leaders in their communities and aim to impact the world.
Throughout the weekend, Watts along with special guests, national radio personality Neechy, bourgeoning author and entrepreneur Brelyn Freeman, musical guests Vernon Gordon and Elevated Worship, Sunday Best Winner Yanna Crawley, national dance instructor Layesha Walton, and Marilyn Wright will present inspiring stories and encourage conversations between the girls.
The high-energy conference was birthed out of Melinda’s passion for youth, particularly young women who grapple with unique pressures. A former high school teacher, Watts is best known for winning the Gospel singing competition, the Gospel Dream; advancing into a busy musical career and soon becoming one of the most sought after contemporary singers and songwriters within the genre.
Melinda is currently working on her sophomore album and is more determined than ever to utilize her platform to uplift youth. “Music is the gateway to many people and I use my voice to share a message of hope and encouragement to these young girls.”
The Dream Girlz Gathering is an official partner of the United Nations “Girl Up” program and the conference travels nationally and internationally throughout the year.
Mothers are also encouraged to attend the 3-day camp and tickets are $99 for each participant; registration includes food and lodging. The Saturday evening concert is open to the public and tickets are $10. For more information please visit HYPERLINK “http://www.melindawatts.com/conferences” http://www.melindawatts.com/conferences.
